An open house for migrants

Southern Italy

nähen.jpg

The open house seeks to create an environment where migrants feel welcome and accepted. Italian language, literacy, cooking amd sewing classes are being offered to the migrants as an opportunity to learn new skills that will benefit them in their new environment. Just as important for them, however, is having a place where they can share their stories and concerns and where they will find a listening ear.

Some of the classes are being taught directly in the refugee camps in the area.

During the ongoing pandemic the distribution of relief supplies such as food, clothing, nappies or gas bottles has become a high priority to provide the migrants with the most essential necessities.

After-School-Program

Romania

afterschool 2 rm.png

Three afternoons a week our partner organization in Transylvania helps children with their homework. Most of them have parents who cannot read or write themselves. In addition, the children in the after-school program get lunch, another important part of supporting  families in need.

At the moment, a building is being renovated where in the future children's as well as adult literacy programs will be offered. Practical skills are not neglected either: carpentry, gardening, learning to play an instrument... There are already many ideas how the additional space can be put to good use!

Practical support for women & children

Northern Morocco

Families with a low income can’t afford health insurance and have to pay for doctor's visits and medication out of their own pockets. Often the income is just enough for rent and food, and a visit to the doctor quickly becomes unaffordable. School attendance in Morocco is free, but school materials and uniforms have to be covered by the parents. Dar Noura supports disadvantaged families with financial contributions towards medical bills and medications, school books and tutoring, children’s clothing, and at times also food items.

A Safe Haven for Orphans

Romania

Ukraina 2.png

Since shortly after the outbreak of war in Ukraine, 28 children and their caregivers from an orphanage in Kyiv have found shelter with our partner organization. As long as the situation in their home country remains unstable they will stay there. The children have settled in well since. For the caregivers the situation is a difficult balancing act: To continue caring for the children they have left their own families behind in a war zone...

Of course, to add this many additional people to your facilities also means many extra challenges: In addition to material needs such as food, clothing and school supplies, the children naturally  need emotional support as well as opportunities for leisure activities and play.
